Our Home and Workshop
The work we do is inseparable from its setting. “Windfall” is our home, our workshop, and our inspiration.
Designed and built by art connoisseur Bill Springer and his brother Charles, “Windfall” is constructed of clear cedar and native stone. Seven acres of dense woodland stand north of the house, while an expansive vista of the Lehigh Valley stretches to the south. Mediating the dark woods and light-filled valley are three acres of parkland, balanced between wild growth and cultivated flowerbeds, trees and lawn, sunlight and shadow.
The interior of the house, with its dramatic cathedral ceilings, exposed stone, and abundant glass, heightens the contrast of sunlight and shadow that may be experienced in the surrounding park. The interplay of the outdoor and indoor spaces gives life to Goethe’s maxim that “Colors are the deeds and sufferings of Light.”
Everything that we produce at TimberMorphosis originally came into being because of a need in our home: lamps to replace the flimsy and ungainly torchieres purchased at an office supply store, a bench to watch the dawn from our deck; a sanctuary in which our dog could guard his food from the curious cats. We have tried to create works of wood that would harmonize with the simplicity and beauty of our surroundings in Windfall, and we hope that they will find a place in your home, classroom, or office as well.
